What the latest official data may mean for buyers, renters and investors.
South West England’s average house price stood at £304,562 in June 2026, according to the UK House Price Index. That was up 0.6% on the month, showing a firmer finish to the spring after May’s 0.4% decline.
Annual growth also edged higher, rising to 1.9% from 1.8% in May.
Private rents in South West England were £1,236 in July 2026, according to the ONS Price Index of Private Rents. That was almost unchanged from June, when the average was £1,237.
South West England has a resident population of 5.88 million, according to ONS/Nomis labour-market data and the Annual Population Survey profile. That large population base matters because it gives the region a broad working-age pool and a wide mix of occupations, incomes and household types.
