Plymouth and South Devon Freeport
The Plymouth and South Devon Freeport is a major regional economic programme focused on three primary tax sites: South Yard in Devonport, Langage near Plympton, and Sherford. The initiative provides essential infrastructure and employment space to support sectors including marine, defence, space, and advanced manufacturing. Recent progress includes the completion of purpose-built employment units at Beaumont Way, Langage, and the approval of construction contracts for innovation units at South Yard, supported by government seed capital funding and additional planning support grants.
Millbay Boulevard Social Housing Development
The Bath Street West development is a key residential project in Plymouth's Millbay regeneration area, designed to deliver 135 affordable homes on a former brownfield site. Following the completion of the Millbay Boulevard infrastructure, construction of the first phase of 80 social-rent homes commenced in early 2026. The project is a partnership between Plymouth Community Homes, Plymouth City Council, and Homes England, aiming to improve connectivity between the city centre and the waterfront while addressing local housing needs.
Plymouth Civic Centre Regeneration
The Plymouth Civic Centre regeneration project reached a major milestone on 30 July 2026, when Plymouth City Council's Planning Committee formally approved the £47.5 million redevelopment scheme. This project will transform the Grade II-listed 14-storey tower into 144 build-to-rent apartments managed by Ollo, alongside a new Blue-Green Skills Hub for City College Plymouth. Supported by significant public funding, including the Future High Streets Fund, the Levelling Up Fund, and Homes England, the development aims to restore the landmark's historic features while creating a car-free, sustainable city-centre neighbourhood.
