Reading Borough Council Local Authority Newbuild Programme
Reading Borough Council's Local Authority Newbuild Programme is a long-running, borough-wide initiative focused on expanding the council's social-rent housing stock through new construction and strategic acquisitions. The current pipeline aims to deliver 362 homes, with 89 units across Hexham Road, Dwyer Road, and Amethyst Lane expected to complete during the 2026/27 financial year. Future phases include 62 homes at the former Central Pool site on Battle Street, 14 homes at the former Southcote Library site, and a proposed 190-home third phase at the Dee Park estate.
Minster Quarter Regeneration
Minster Quarter Central is a council-led, residential-focused regeneration project for 5.2 acres of former Civic Centre land adjacent to The Hexagon in Reading town centre. Following the signing of a formal development agreement in November 2025, Reading Borough Council and partner McLaren Living are progressing plans for a £250 million scheme. The proposal includes over 600 homes, with 30% designated as affordable, alongside 40,000 sq ft of commercial space, a 102-bedroom hotel, a community hub, and a new public square. Recent progress includes the formal approval of open-space land disposal to facilitate the development, with the project currently advancing through pre-planning stages.
