What the latest official data may mean for buyers, renters and investors.
Reading’s average house price stood at £361,243 in June 2026, according to the UK House Price Index. That is up 0.5% on the month and 0.9% higher than a year earlier.
Prices are still moving up, but the pace is modest.
Reading’s average private rent was £1,573 in July 2026, according to the ONS Price Index of Private Rents. That was flat on June, when the average was also £1,573.
Month on month, the latest movement was very small at 0.03%, so rents were broadly unchanged at the start of the summer.
Reading’s latest ONS/Nomis labour-market profile points to a relatively strong earnings and employment position. On the ASHE resident measure, median gross weekly pay for full-time employees is £804.90, which annualises to £41,855.
That is above the Great Britain median of £766.60 a week, or £39,863 a year.
