York’s private rental market continued to edge higher in May 2026, according to the ONS Price Index of Private Rents. The average rent stood at £1,182.
That was up from £1,178 in April, a monthly rise of 0.4%. It also means rents have increased by 5.3% over the year, compared with £1,123 in May 2025.
