Urban RegenerationCathedral Quarter Transformation
The Cathedral Quarter Transformation is a long-term, 10 to 15-year regeneration project in Wakefield city centre, led by Wakefield Council in partnership with Muse. Following the council's acquisition of The Ridings Shopping Centre, the project has undergone a detailed review and public consultation process, which concluded in early August 2026. The masterplan aims to replace the underutilised shopping centre and nearby residential tower blocks with a mixed-use district, including approximately 1,000 new homes, a new library and museum, public green spaces, and enhanced leisure and commercial facilities. The council is currently synthesising feedback from the latest consultation to refine proposals for the first phase of development.
