Preston’s UK House Price Index shows a clear rise in April 2026. The average home price reached £190,442.
That is up 1.5% on the month and 10.6% higher than a year earlier. The latest move follows a brief dip in March, when the average price stood at £187,641 and monthly growth was -0.2%.
Preston’s private rental market continued to edge higher in May 2026, according to the ONS Price Index of Private Rents. The average rent reached £782.
That was up from £780 in April, a month-on-month rise of 0.3%. It also sits well above the £730 recorded in May 2025.
Preston’s latest ONS/Nomis labour market profile shows a resident population of 162,864. That gives useful context for the local jobs picture.
It is a sizeable city, but still much smaller than the national labour market, so local figures can move around more than the Great Britain average.
