What the latest official data may mean for buyers, renters and investors.
Wealden’s average house price stood at £388,369 in April 2026, according to the UK House Price Index. That was down 0.7% on the month, after March had posted a 0.4% rise.
So the latest move points to a modest cooling after a brief bounce. The yearly picture is still positive.
Wealden’s average private rent stood at £1,266 in May 2026, according to the ONS Price Index of Private Rents. That is up from £1,260 in April, so rents rose by £6 month on month.
It also means the average rent is £28 higher than in May 2025, when it was £1,238.
Wealden’s latest ONS/Nomis labour-market profile points to a relatively strong local earnings and employment backdrop. The resident population was 166,908 in 2024, which gives some scale to the local workforce and the demand side of the housing market.
