Tower Hamlets house prices averaged £456,898 in June 2026, according to the latest UK House Price Index. That was up 1.5% on May, when the average stood at £450,318.
Even so, values were still 13.1% lower than a year earlier, showing that the borough remains well below its position in mid-2025.
Tower Hamlets’ average private rent stood at £2,439 in July 2026, according to the ONS Price Index of Private Rents. That was up £10 on the month from £2,429 in June.
It also means rents were 3.0% higher than a year earlier, when the average was £2,368.
Tower Hamlets has a large resident population of 334,240 and a labour market profile that stands out on the ONS and Nomis data. The latest Annual Population Survey profile shows an employment rate of 72.7%, below the Great Britain figure of 75.5%.
The unemployment rate is 8.8%, well above the national 4.5%.
