Tameside market commentary
What the latest official data may mean for buyers, renters and investors.
Tameside’s average house price stood at £211,304 in June 2026, according to the UK House Price Index. That is up 0.5% on May, when the average was £210,276.
It also leaves prices 2.2% higher than a year earlier. The latest reading suggests a market that is still edging forward, but not in a straight line.
Tameside’s average private rent stood at £927 in July 2026, according to the ONS Price Index of Private Rents. That was up £4 from June’s £923, a monthly rise of 0.5%.
It also leaves rents 5.7% higher than a year earlier, when the average was £877.
Tameside’s latest ONS and Nomis labour-market profile shows a resident population of 240,822 in 2025. That gives the borough a sizeable local workforce and a broad base of households to support day-to-day housing demand.
But the key point for affordability is not size alone. It is the balance between pay, work and inactivity.
