South Tyneside’s average house price stood at £156,931 in April 2026, according to the UK House Price Index. That is up 0.2% on March, when the average was £156,631.
Over the year, prices were 1.9% higher than in April 2025, when the average stood at £154,058.
South Tyneside’s private rent market continued to edge higher in May 2026, according to the ONS Price Index of Private Rents. The average rent reached £726 a month.
That was up from £723 in April, a monthly rise of 0.4%.
South Tyneside had a resident population of 151,393 in 2024, so the labour market picture needs to be read alongside a fairly large local base. The latest ONS/Nomis profile, using Annual Population Survey data, shows an employment rate of 64.5%.
