Maldon market commentary
What the latest official data may mean for buyers, renters and investors.
Maldon’s latest UK House Price Index reading puts the average home at £384,348 in June 2026. That is down 0.4% on the month, so prices eased a little after May’s sharper 2.3% fall.
Even so, values remain slightly above where they were a year ago, with annual growth at 0.4%.
Maldon’s average private rent was £1,143 in July 2026, according to the ONS Price Index of Private Rents. That was down slightly from £1,146 in June, a month-on-month fall of 0.3%.
It is a small move, but it marks a second consecutive monthly drop after rents eased in June as well.
Maldon’s latest ONS/Nomis labour-market profile shows a resident population of 70,196 in 2025. That gives useful context for the local housing market.
It is a relatively small place in population terms, so shifts in employment and pay can matter for affordability and demand patterns, but they should not be read as direct price drivers.
