Walker Regeneration Programme
The Walker Regeneration Programme is a long-term initiative by Newcastle City Council to revitalise the Walker ward, supported by the North East Combined Authority and the national Pride in Place Programme. Following the successful 2024 demolition of the Hexham House tower block, the council has prioritised the area for new housing development, with approximately 451 homes earmarked for sites including Walker Road, Pottery Bank, and Church Walk. The programme aims to replace outdated social housing with modern, energy-efficient homes while enhancing community assets and green spaces.
Forth Yards (including Quayside West)
Forth Yards is a 52-acre brownfield regeneration project situated between Newcastle Central Station and the River Tyne. The site is currently undergoing a major transformation process, supported by £121.8 million in government funding for remediation, groundworks, and infrastructure. The project, which aims to deliver up to 2,500 new homes and significant commercial space, is being led by a public sector partnership including Homes England, Newcastle City Council, the North East Combined Authority, and Network Rail. A procurement process to appoint a long-term private sector development partner is currently underway, with a contract expected to be awarded in October 2026.
